Matías Eguiguren

Founding Partner, Head of Institutional Fund Distribution

Between 1996 and 2010, prior to founding PICTON, Matias developed and led the institutional fund distribution effort at Celfin Capital –one of Chile’s leading investment banks– where he was a Partner and member of the board of directors. During this period, he negotiated distribution agreements with UBS, Credit Suisse, BlackRock, Schroders, Gartmore, Barings, and Aberdeen –among others– growing from $0 to over $10 billion in mutual fund investments by institutional investors and high-net-worth individuals in Chile, Peru and Colombia. Matias was also responsible for Celfin Capital’s investment funds division, which he grew to over $2.5 billion in assets under management. In this role, he participated in the creation of numerous equity and fixed income investments funds both locally and internationally, including the Global Optimization Fund –developed together with Nobel laureate Harry Markowitz– and the KKR Master Fund, which was the first international private equity fund distributed in Chile.

After leaving Celfin Capital, he acted as an advisor to Chile’s Ministry of Home Affairs (2011).

Between 2009 and 2010, Matias served as Chairman of ACAFI, the Chilean association of investment fund managers, where he continues to hold the title of honorary director and he was a member of the public-private committee organized by the Finance Ministry that worked on the proposal and implementation of the “Investment Funds Law” (Ley Única de Fondos).

Matias holds a degree in business and economics from the Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago, Chile, where he was awarded the “Nicolas Boetsch” prize as the best graduate in recognition of his significant career in November 2012.
